... and myself?
The Dave Hughes and Al Baker Mega UK tour starts in a couple of weeks and we've got a some dates that need filled.
Perhaps you want to dip your toes and put on a house show? Bugger up Orange's plans and do it totally DIY? Or, perhaps you know someone who puts on shows in your town?
Anyways, the dates we need filled are:
29th August - somewhere in Scotland, perhaps Edinburgh?
1st September - somewhere between Perth and Lancaster.
5th September - somewhere between huddersfield and London.
Oh, and the third person is my brother Dan who is playing Mandolin for myself and Al during the tour
What I've been up to

Since the whole **** around with the Scotch Corner residency, and other folk offering with one hand and taking with the other, I've shifted down a gear and looked back at what I do and what I want to do.
I was all for giving it all up and concentrating 100% of my time on my Phd, but instead I've decided to carry on. I've written two new songs since that whole mess, and I can't wait to get them recorded and out there.
This weekend I'm playing in London on Saturday and then Durham on Sunday, which should be fun. I've been working on a few covers of songs that I adore and have shaped what I do onstage, one of them is the infamous "They never came home" by Christy Moore. I hope to play this at one (or both) of the shows.
Then the month after I'm out on a full UK tour, taking in Glasgow, Newcastle, London, Huddersfield, Hornby and Peterborough with the fantastic Al Baker. After this I'm off to europe with James 'Bar' Bowen for 5 dates which again will be great.
Then it's, well, nothing. I'm gonna pace myself with gigs in and around Glasgow. If someone offers something good then I'll perhaps do it, but I've seen that being choosy when it comes to gigs works a treat.
I'm working on a compilation of Acoustic Riot music from around the UK, hand picked tracks of rioty folky music. Should be a December release all going well.
Oh, and there was also a music video made for one of my tracks, called "You can't spell flame retardant without lame retard".
So yeah, thats about it. I'll keep playing as long as people are listening, which shouldn't take too long.
Scotch Corner Cancelled
by thealarmist, posted 13/06/08 11:50:22
Hey all,
I just had two phone calls.
One from Lorraine, who booked me for Scotch Corner on Friday nights. She had been fired and as such didn't know what was going on with the acts that she had booked. She gave me the number of the pub to call up to find out what the score was.
So, I called up the pub to find out and they just called me back there. The reasons given were, I was too young (!), loud and didn't play enough cover songs that people know. Also something about not bringing a crowd along.
Which is all very strange since from the start I said I don't do radio hits and was told that it was fine to do original songs. I can't really do anything about my age, and I like playing loudly ( I guess since he was watching my set he could of asked me to turn down the PA!).
The crowd? Well, i did my best (emails, phone calls, texts, Evening Times article) and it wasn't my fault if more people didn't come along. That said though, out of the 30 or so people in the pub on Friday night, most of them were there to see me. So I hope he enjoys his emptier pub.
Pretty short notice as well it has to be said! The manager said that he enjoyed my set, and liked the direction I was taking the music, but it just wasn't suitable for his pub.
The manager also told me that there was never even the notion of a Residency. Lorraine was told to book an act for Friday nights and the residency thing hadn't even been mentioned to him.
So, if you were going to head along tonight, don't bother. Or better still, head along en masse and ask the bar man where I am.

Every Friday Night at Scotch Corner!
by thealarmist, posted 03/06/08 10:04:36
I've been offered a residency at Scotch Corner (Stockwell St, Glasgow). So starting this Friday (6th June), I'll be playing every Friday night!
The show will start at 9.30, with two 45 minute sets and a wee break in the middle.
I can't tell you how over the moon I am to be given this opportunity. I'm looking for it to help with my performance and story telling. To say I'm excited is a bit of an understatement!
